One number, for the whole year

The plan is priced once and invoiced once. Hosting, the weekly updates, the nightly backups, the monitoring, the incidents and the quarterly report are all inside that number. There is no per-incident line, no bandwidth surprise, and no call that costs extra because it came on a Friday.

What sits outside it is the work of changing the site rather than keeping it: a new section, a redesign, a feature. Those are quoted separately, in writing, before anything starts, the same way the platform builds are.

What runs, and when

The week is the Saudi week. Updates go out on Tuesday morning, Riyadh time, after a staging copy has taken them first and its checks have passed. Backups leave at three in the morning every night. Scans run continuously, and the uptime probe asks the site whether it is there once a minute from three points on the map.

Nothing is applied on a Thursday afternoon or over the Friday–Saturday weekend unless it is a security fix that cannot wait, and then you hear about it first.

The copy leaves the city every night

A backup that lives on the same machine as the site is not a backup. Every night a full copy of the files and the database is encrypted and carried to storage in another region, and thirty of those copies are kept, so any day in the last month can be brought back.

Once a quarter we restore one of them to a staging server and time it. The number goes in your report. A backup nobody has restored is a hope, not a plan.

Watched around the clock

The probe asks the site whether it is there once a minute from three points on the map, and a failed answer goes to a pager, not an inbox. The target is 99.9% availability, which allows the site at most eight hours and forty-five minutes of downtime in a year, and most years it uses none of that.

When the probe fails, someone is paged inside five minutes. Most incidents are closed the same business day, and every one of them gets a written account of what happened and what changed so it does not happen again.

The stack under your site

A content network and TLS in front, a hardened application server behind it, a managed database, object storage for media, and the backup store in a second region. Servers sit in the region your users are in; for organisations that need data to stay in the Kingdom, that means a Saudi region.

Everything is defined in code, under version control, and rebuilt from that definition rather than patched by hand. It is the least exciting way to run a server, which is the point.
